They say you can’t eat your cake and have it. But what if you actually could?

In the world of online sports betting, BetKing’s HT Early Payout (HTUP) feature flips that old saying on its head. It’s the rare moment where you can win now and still keep your hopes alive for more. Think of it as a smart safety net; you get your winnings early if your team is leading at half-time, but if they’re not, your bet stays alive for the full 90.

Let’s break it down.

To solidify our place as the best betting site in Nigeria, we’ve added the HTUP feature. Using this, your selected team only needs to be ahead at half-time for the bet to hit. And if you’re going for a draw, that’s not a problem. Using the HTUP feature, you can also bet on a draw at half-time and get a full payout if both teams are level at the break. That’s it!

Now you might be thinking, “shey no be the same as half-time bet? No dey whine me jor.” Nope! Different features.

You see, with the “Half-Time win” market, if your selected team isn’t ahead during the break, you lose the bet. That’s where HTUP shows its magic. If your team isn’t leading at half-time, your bet doesn’t die yet. It carries on into the second half, and if they eventually win the match, you still get paid.

Two chances to win. One smart bet.

How to Strategically Use HTUP

With the new season approaching, it’s important you not only know about the HTUP feature but also how to make the most of it. You can use it in the English Premier League, LaLiga, in Champions League fixtures and many more. So, here are a few betting tips on how and when to use it:

Back The Fast Starters

Some teams are notorious for flying out the blocks. They press high, score early, and dominate the first half. In the 2024/25 season, Arsenal went into half-time with the lead in 20 of their 38 games; the most in the league.

Man City and Liverpool weren’t far behind, doing it 19 times each. So if you were using the HTUP feature on any of those three, you'd have hit the mark over 50% of the time. So, use HTUP on these teams, especially when they’re playing against weaker opposition. If they lead at the break (as they often do), you cash out instantly and there’s no risk of late equalizers or meltdowns in the second half.

Meanwhile, Man United only led at half-time in 5 of their 38 games. So, even with all the hype around their new signings and their encouraging pre-season form, it might be smart to hold off using HTUP on them... at least until the stats tell a better story.

Use HTUP for Home Favourites in Early Kickoffs

Early kickoffs often favour home teams since they don’t have to travel, and there’s often less intensity from the visitors. Even Jurgen Klopp hated these early games. The strategy here would be to back the home team with HTUP.

Like I said, these fixtures are typically slower-paced in the second half due to fatigue or early substitutions. If the home side is ahead at the break, you're paid and done.

Capitalize on “Bounce Back” Games

After a bad result or embarrassing loss, big teams often come out aggressive in their next match to make a statement, especially if they're playing a smaller club. Take last season’s LaLiga winners, Barcelona. They lost just 6 league games all year and responded to 3 of those with wins. Not bad, right?

If 50% doesn’t excite you, check out their rivals Real Madrid. Los Blancos also had 6 league defeats, but came back to win 5 of the 6 follow-up games. That’s a massive 83% bounce-back rate, making them a serious candidate for the HTUP following a loss.

So, look for top teams coming off an embarrassing loss. Use HTUP to back them early. They’ll likely push hard from the start, and if they lead at the break (likely), your payout is secure. And even if they don’t lead at half-time, your money is safe for another 45 mins.

Use HTUP on High-Scoring Teams (Against Weak Defenses)

Some teams just love scoring (especially in the first half) while others can’t stop leaking goals. That’s where the HTUP feature comes in handy. Back the attacking powerhouses like Man City, Bayern, Barcelona, or PSG. Remember what PSG did to Inter in the Champions League final? Brutal.

On the flip side, bet against teams with shaky defenses, especially those that flirted with relegation last season and did little to fix things in the transfer market. Think Wolves in the EPL, Le Havre in Ligue 1, Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, or AVS in Liga Portugal.

Now that we have that sorted, here’s how you can access HTUP:
